Watermelon and Plum Smoothie

This refreshing smoothie is rich in electrolytes and antioxidant nutrients and is ideal as a workout/sports drink. Most of us over-consume sodium, but many people get less than required amount of potassium. It is important to balance the ratio of minerals like sodium and potassium for the proper functioning of the body.

Potassium is an important mineral which functions as an electrolyte. It plays an important role in conducting nerve impulses for muscle contractions and regulating heartbeat. Potassium sodium ratio helps to maintain fluid level and hence it is important in lowering high blood pressure. Coconut water is a great source of potassium whereas watermelon and plum are considered as good source of the important mineral.

2 Cups of Watermelon chunks
2 Plums, stoned and quartered
1 Cup Coconut water
Splash of lime juice

Put the watermelon and plums in the blender, top up with coconut water and lime juice, then blitz until smooth.
